KJC Exchange Spring 2025 Letter

Thank you for writing or drawing for me! I'm within_a_dream on AO3 and am requesting fic and art for all requests. I am within_a_dream on AO3, and you can read my previous letters here if you want to see some of my previous exchange requests!

In general, please feel free to include any kinks or tropes not in my DNWs (yes even the really weird ones, I have unusually broad interests), and include any ships in addition to my requested characters/ships, including adding characters to my requested ships. Crossovers are also welcome – I've read all of KJC's books and I'm familiar with many other fandoms!

Trans characters, trans headcanons, and character-is-trans AUs always welcome. I enjoy aromantic, no-romo, friends-with benefits takes on ships and characters with unusual or nontypical attitudes towards romance (although I prefer for historical characters not to explicitly use the word aromantic). I’m also down for any amount of character death, graphic violence, and/or noncon.

Don’t feel bound to my prompts if none of them catch your interest – I’ll be happy with anything about my ships that doesn’t contain my DNWs! Length of prompts is 0% an indication of what I want more and 100% just a function of what ships I’ve requested before/have previous prompts to pull from.

• My favorite words for genitals are cock and cunt, but I have no objections to whatever you’d like to use

• Pretty much anything under the BDSM umbrella. I am especially into unnegotiated or undernegotiated kink, and characters falling into kinky dynamics or things they enjoy (especially with the younger characters). I have no dom/sub preferences

• Roleplay – I am into both serious roleplay and goofy scenarios that the characters can’t quite take seriously, and I am especially fond of rape roleplay/consensual non-consent

Solo: Richard Vane's Mother

I accidentally gave myself so many emotions about Richard's mom on my latest Society of Gentlemen reread and I am going to make this everyone's problem. Like, she was saddled with an abusive husband, was imprisoned in an isolated house after fighting back against him, and then she died a presumably horrible death of cancer?? And the complicated emotions Richard has about her and her death are so juicy. (She was never quiet about her hatred of her children!! But!! She saved all of his letters!!)

First off, if you just want to write/draw something tragic and canon-compliant, please feel free. Art-specific prompt: I would love to see a formal portrait of her, not least so I can adopt your appearance headcanons as my own as I write my own fic about her.

The rest of the ideas are just variations on, what if she got to be happy? Give her a friend, or a girlfriend, or a lover. Have her survive and reconnect with Richard. Have her meet Cyprian as a kind of counterpoint to Richard meeting David's mom.

Hyperspecific prompt that I release into the wild and which you may take all of, part of, or none of as you so choose: what if in a parallel to Richard, she falls in love with her lady's maid or companion or someone similar? And the two of them fuck off to Europe after an inheritance or windfall makes them somewhat financially independent? And then she hears about Harry's return to the family and this spurs her to return home to London? And she and Richard have an awkward and tentative reconnection while both are trying to hide their queer identity and relationship from each other?

Will Quex/Jonathan Shakespeare

I so desperately want backstory fic for these two. How did they meet? How did they fall in love? How did they end up running Quex’s? What was Will’s life like between leaving his family and the beginning of the books? Dropping some treats and pspspsing at those of us who love to write novellas (or fics of any length) about the love stories of secondary characters in the books...

Will and/or Jon POV on the events of the books would be very fun. I love that they’re in the background snarking about the gentlemen and occasionally helping Silas and David, and I’d love to see any of the big (or small) events of SoG through their eyes

So I love threesomes and I love that Will and Jon are canonically into threesomes, and I would love to see more smut about this, whether that’s with Cyprian, with Silas (+/- Dom), or with other characters or OCs of your choice (feel free to bring in some crossover characters for porn purposes as well! I’ve read all of KJC’s other books if any of her characters strike your fancy, but I’m down for literally any fandom for this crossover prompt, even if I haven’t heard of it)

I’d also really love smut of the two of them alone!

Really, I just want more fic about these two somewhat minor characters who have stolen my heart. So if you have a Will & Jon story you’ve been dying to tell, hit me with it and I will love it.

Harry Vane & Verona Vane

I love that they end up friends by the end of the book! I love that Harry lends Verona feminist literature! I want to see more of them hanging out post-canon! I would also love to see Verona finding out about Harry and Julius' relationship and being supportive (or perhaps realizing she's queer herself).

I also would love an AU where Harry and Verona actually get married in a marriage-of-convenience way. They can team up to torment Gideon, it would be great. They are super indiscreet about their affairs but refuse to acknowledge this to Gideon. Verona has a baby who looks just like Rawlings and Harry's like, "Oh, he takes after my mother!" I have this scene in my head of Verona hearing that Richard objects to infidelity and cornering him to give him this whole speech (drawn from the feminist works of Euphemia Gordon) about how a marriage is what its participants define it to be, and if a woman were to agree to marry someone and consent to that someone keeping his lover, then who's being hurt here? And Harry's just hiding in the corner giving her a thumbs up.

Also totally down for Harry/Verona in a fuckbuddies kinda way, with or without a marriage of convenience AU

Julius Norreys/Edward Rawling/Harry Vane/Verona Vane

So this was spawned by the aforementioned concept of a Harry/Verona marriage of convenience AU, but it would still be fun in other settings! I just love the idea of Harry and Verona ending up attracted to each other after they both no longer have to hide their lovers, and/or Rawling ending up attracted to Harry and/or Julius or vice versa, and ending up having a foursome that could be really awkward or could work weirdly well fueled solely by Harry's charm.

Lord Corvin/Mr Dent (Band Sinister)

So there’s an excerpt of a potential Corvin novel on the KJC Facebook group that has haunted me with a desire for fic since I read it. If you don’t have access, no worries, the important bit is that it’s set post-Band Sinister and contains John Raven telling Corvin that he absolutely should not fuck the curate of Wrayton Magna and Corvin being like “but what if I fuck him anyway~”. Corvin’s description of the curate: The new curate’s not bad, in a gloomy sort of way. A face like funereal architecture of the more magnificent sort. I say this as a compliment, you understand. What if this curate...was Mr. Dent... Please give me this story! If you want my even more niche thoughts, I think it would be very fun if Dent had a previous gay relationship that fell apart because he’s aromantic and couldn’t reciprocate his lover’s romantic feelings, and then meets Corvin and has his horizons of what relationships can be broadened (and also stops hating himself for not being able to be what the past lover wanted/needed). If you roll with the aro4aro subprompt, it could add some interesting flavor for Dent agreeing to marry Amanda on Aunt Beatrice’s say-so. Dent joining in on some Murder gatherings and Guy and/or Amanda recognizing him would be very fun, as would Dent standing up to and/or scandalizing Beatrice on Corvin’s urging/with Corvin’s support.

Amanda Frisby/Any Member(s) of the Murder Except Guy Frisby

I just want Amanda to get to join the polycule and slut it up! I think it would be fun if she commandeered her friends to block out scenes from her latest novel-in-progress, and also if she started writing erotica and borrowing Murder members for more hands-on sex experience. I do love Amanda/David, but I also think an AU where she ends up marrying a different Murder member would be delightful (my first thought is thoroughly scandalizing everyone by marrying Corvin, after assuring both him and Guy that she expects neither love nor fidelity out of this, but I'm down for anyone). I'm requesting the non-incestuous version of the tag bc I don't actively ship Guy/Amanda, but I don't mind them being present at the same orgies/sex parties, having the same lover/s, or hearing about each other's sex lives.

Okay so I love how when faced with the horrible D’Aumesty clan, Rufus sets about figuring out how to get along with his cousins, and I want to see his post-canon interactions with one, two, or all three of them! Meeting Odo’s fiancee, working with Fulk on the estate (listen I am such a slut for estate maintenance), talking art with Berengaria, or anything else you can think of! I'm also totally down for any canon ships happening alongside the cousin-bonding, and I am very soft for Rufus cautiously telling his cousins about him and Luke (or one or more of the cousins figuring it out on their own) and everyone accepting him.

Laura Colefax/Odo d'Aumesty

I ended this series so unexpectedly fond of Odo, and I want to see his life post-canon!. Based on absolutely nothing, I assume Laura and her father have a good relationship, and I’d love to see Odo’s feelings about joining like, an actually functional and loving family. I want to see the two of them nerding out about history together. I am totally down for smut and would especially love to see them doing some incredibly nerdy and intricate roleplay (possibly with one of them getting derailed correcting the other on historical inaccuracies), or something genderfucky with Odo roleplaying as a woman and/or Laura as a man. Would love to see Laura being just as much of a weirdo (affectionate) as Odo.

Cassian learning to assert his own desires more around his family/society and also possibly fumbling into being a rich jerk to Daizell more and having to fix that! More sex, whether it's more somnophilia or vanilla or praise kink or pony play or something else entirely! I just want more Martin! Love this traumatized asshole, love that he gets a happy ending and a new job at the end, would love to see literally anything you would like to create about him. Loved that Martin was determined to Git Gud at valet-ing as soon as Cassian offered him the job, and would love to see more of that. I am also a sucker for a rape/trauma recovery story, and would love to see something along those lines (whether as gen or as part of a shipfic, for Cassian/Daizell/Martin or Martin/OC).
