Rule 63 Exchange 2019

Thank you for writing or drawing for me! I’ve requested fic and art, and G and E ratings, for all fandoms. I’m within_a_dream on AO3. My general interest in rule 63 is twofold: examining the way characters’ arcs and backstories would change if they were a different gender (especially in historical fandoms), and "my male faves would be way hot as women" (I’m only requesting male characters r63’d into women this round). I’ll probably have more prompts for the former just because I have more to say about that, but feel free to roll with either or both of those in a gift! And if you matched to me on art, I hope the plotty prompts aren’t intimidating - I will be so happy to receive any art of my faves as women, I do not at all require a long plotty comic to suit my more plotty prompts.

Feel free to include any unrequested ships unless I have them in my DNWs! I am a massive multishipper. I welcome any unrequested rule 63-ing of male characters in addition to my requested characters (I’d prefer canonical women be kept as women). I like fluff, smut, angst, and pretty much any other genre, and any rating from General to Explicit. You are welcome to include major character death, rape/noncon, graphic violence, or underage in any fills (feel free to break both my heart and my requested characters).

For fic, I have no preference on what you do with names. Go for the closest feminine version of their canonical name, choose a popular fanon rule 63 name if there is one, pick a completely unrelated name, keep their canonical name….whatever you’d like!

I tend to assume that characters in historical fandoms are crossdressing/passing as men in my fic prompts because that’s where my idle daydreams about rule 63 AUs usually start, but you are welcome to ignore those aspects of the prompts and write them living as women if you prefer! I am also totally fine with rule 63’d characters who have complicated views of their gender/lean more genderqueer than cis woman (adapted to historical understandings of both of those concepts in the relevant eras), I just don’t want to read them as trans men for this exchange.

For this fandom, I would also enjoy reading my requested romantic ships as platonic!

In general, I am just fascinated by what a female Ben would look like, and how her life would be different. I like to imagine her passing as a man to attend medical school in Paris, and returning home to New Orleans under her new identity, but feel free to choose any backstory you’d like if that doesn’t tickle your fancy. I also like to imagine she would still be bulky and imposing (and that this would help her in passing as a man), although probably less so than canon Ben. Gender and race and the way they impact people are such a big part of the books, I’d love to see how a female Ben’s relationships with her family and friends would change and how her outlook on life would change. If you are writing her as passing as a man, I’d love to see how having to hide her gender would impact her life (and the new depth that would add to her trepidation about returning to New Orleans, and the freedom she felt in Paris).

• F!Benjamin January & Augustus Mayerling - Would F!Ben catch onto Augustus’s secret earlier? It would probably change her canonical reaction of befuddled acceptance to the reveal. I like to read Augustus as a trans man, and it would be interesting to see an interaction between a F!Ben who would be happy as a woman if it didn’t keep her from what she wanted to do and Augustus who feels strongly that he is a man


• F!Benjamin January & Dominique Janvier, F!Benjamin January & Olympe Corbier
- Livia’s expectations of her daughters are very different from her expectations of her son, and I’d love to see how Ben being a woman would change the sibling relationship. Would she and Olympe remain closer, or would Olympe hate her for hiding who she is and running off to study medicine? (There would be some interesting parallels between Ben learning to heal people through European academia vs Olympe doing so through vodou.) And Minou and Ben would still be far apart in age, so I’m not sure their relationship would change so much, but I’d love to see what Minou got told about her older sibling (did Livia play along with the crossdressing charade? Did she start talking about passing-as-a-man-Ben as a cousin of the family or something? Did she just stop mentioning Ben?)

• F!Benjamin January/Hannibal Sefton – Hannibal was the first to catch on to Augustus if I recall correctly, so I could see him pegging Ben as a woman, but I’d be equally happy to see him falling for Ben while thinking she’s a man (and Ben trying to decide whether to let onto her reciprocal feelings, and if it’s safe to tell him she’s actually a woman)


• F!Benjamin January/Rose Vitrac January – I love these two so much and I will love anything about their relationship as f/f. Would be particularly interested in seeing at what point she told Rose she was a woman. One facet of their canon relationship that would be complicated with an f!Ben AU is their inability to have biological children...I wonder if they would want to find a way to adopt children in this AU, or if they would be happy as childless.


• F!Benjamin January/Rose Vitrac January/Hannibal Sefton – Everything for Ben/Hannibal and Ben/Rose still goes. This isn’t specific to an F!Ben AU, but I’d love to see how they all end up together : do they start out as established Ben/Rose adding Hannibal? Established Ben/Hannibal adding Rose? All three of them coming together at once? Building on the comment about children from my Ben/Rose prompt, I could perhaps see the three of them deciding that they would try for a child with Hannibal as the bio-father (although given his history this would be rather fraught for Hannibal, I imagine). Feel free to disregard my pregnancy DNW for this! (I would prefer to avoid lots of details on the physical aspects of pregnancy, but discussion of family planning and Rose being pregnant are both very welcome.)

Characters/Ships

• F!Amis de l'ABC & None – hello yes please give me the gang of female revolutionaries! Crossdressing, openly living as women, or a mix of both is good for me. I’d be interested in both an exploration of how this might change their political views or actions, or just slice of life about f!Les Amis. (I’m not requesting any specific ships but I’m down for shipfic about any combo of Les Amis if you want to write or draw it!) Artwise specifically, I’m always a sucker for barricade art, including death scenes


• F!Marius Pontmercy & None – Marius has been one of my faves since I read the Brick in 10th grade, and I’d love to see a female Marius. I could see her deciding to live as a man after leaving Gillenormand’s house, or I’d love to see how a Marius presenting as a woman would fit into the plot of Les Mis. Really I would just love to see a female Marius in all her ridiculous, passionate, dorky glory.


• F!Marius Pontmercy & Jean Valjean – I’d love to see how Marius being a woman would change Valjean’s opinion of her. Assuming he knows Marius is a woman, is he happy to see Cosette with a friend/companion her own age, or does he still have the same worries as in canon (whether or not he realizes Marius and Cosette are romantically involved)? I’d also love to see Valjean discovering Marius is a woman when he rescues her from the barricade, and your take on how that might change the progression of the end of the book (or if it doesn’t change much!)


• F!Marius Pontmercy & F!Jean Valjean – the same prompts from F!Marius & Valjean apply, but with an f!Valjean as well, I’d love to see how this might change their relationship. Feel free to delve into how a female Valjean’s backstory might differ! I would also be very into a comedic fic where both Marius and Valjean are trying to prevent the other from realizing they’re actually a woman, without realizing the other "man" is actually a woman


• F!Marius Pontmercy/Cosette Fauchelevent – I love these nerds and so desperately want to see them as lesbians. I would especially love it if f!Marius idealizes Cosette just as much as canon Marius does, handkerchief and all. I’d also love to see when Marius tells Cosette she’s a woman if you’re writing a Marius who’s passing as a man, or how long it takes Cosette to realize she’s in love with an f!Marius who’s living as a woman. For art, I’m always a sucker for their first meeting or their wedding day (f!Marius being dapper in a suit, yes please!)


• F!Valjean & Cosette – canon Valjean is very unfamiliar with what a young woman might want out of life, and I’d love to see how that might be different with a female Valjean. I’d also love to see how this Valjean’s backstory might differ from canon. (Did she disguise herself as a man after getting out of prison to escape the notice of the police? I confess I don’t know much about how female prisons would differ from male prisons in the era of the book, and you are welcome to use knowledge/research to answer that as much or as little as you want). I love Valjean parenting Cosette in canon and would love more of that from a rule 63 AU.

Magnificent Seven (2016)

I have my own "everyone is AFAB" AU for Mag7, with specific background headcanons for everyone, so if I am less specific about backstories here than in my other fandoms it is only because I’m trying to avoid overly influencing you with my Very Specific Ideas for my own AU because I want to see other people’s takes.

Ships/Characters:

• F!Goodnight Robicheaux/F!Billy Rocks – I love this ship and would love them even more (if that’s even possible) as f/f. I’d assume f!Goodnight enlisted in disguise as a man, which might add an interesting dimension to her postwar guilt and PTSD. I could see Billy as living openly as a woman and taking advantage of the way people underestimate her because of that (and if you go with that, I’d love to see what [probably gross and racist] assumptions people make about her relationship with Goodnight), or passing as a man as well.


• F!Vasquez & None – Vasquez’s backstory (what little we know of it) as an outlaw gets even more interesting to me with f!Vasquez. Living on the run with such a high bounty on your head would be even more dangerous as a woman. Or maybe she committed whatever her crime was while living as a man, in which case I’d love to see her justification for not going back to presenting as a woman to escape the bounty (or maybe she does go back to living as a woman, and has to deal with the frustration of gender expectations, although that would somewhat complicate her joining the M7). I would also love to know just what her crime and backstory are (in this AU, I have a soft spot for her killing her would-be rapist or rapist, but anything goes)


• F!Joshua Faraday/F!Vasquez – I must admit that the drunk asshole character type is a lot sexier to me as a woman. I’d love any of my f!Vasquez solo prompts here, and am also interested in an exploration of Faraday’s backstory. Unlike most of my historical fandom prompts, I could see Faraday living as a woman more than I could see her passing as a man. I’d love to see a cantankerous asshole f!Faraday just like in canon, beating everyone at cards and shooting anyone who makes too much of a fuss about her gender. I would also love to see how this might affect how her relationship with Vasquez develops. I am down for canon-compliant deaths, but also very into fic where Faraday survives the explosion with serious injuries and has to deal with burn scars and maybe missing body parts


• F!Red Harvest & None – I love Red Harvest so much and would love more fanworks centered around him (or her, in this case). I do not know a ton about Comanche gender roles ca. the 19th century, but if you do or if you would find it fun to research them I would welcome that in fic/art, especially in something set pre-canon! Otherwise you do not have to feel obligated to do tons of research, I’m just as happy with something set in canon using only what we see in canon. Red Harvest is another character I would see not hiding their gender. I’d imagine being a woman would make her come across as even more of an odd duck than she already does in canon, and I’d love to see how the stereotypical ways people view her might change as a Native American woman instead of a Native American man.


• F!Magnificent Seven & None – I just want a gang of women saving Rose Creek, you guys. I’d love to see a variety in terms of passing as men vs living as woman, etc, and am interested in how the characters’ backstories would change. I’m down for gen or literally any possible ships among the 7 (although I am especially partial to giant polyships involving some or all of the cast)


• F!Magnificent Seven & Emma Cullen – I am very into Emma interacting with a group of women who are doing things she maybe never imagined were possible for herself. I’d especially love to see Emma maybe deciding that, post-battle, being confined to Rose Creek as a widow is not what she wants out of life, and joining the Seven (in an everyone-lives AU) or the survivors of the Seven (in canon-compliant fic/art) on further adventures. Gen is great, shipping Emma with literally any of the Seven (or multiple of them!) is also great

Hadestown – Mitchell

I’ve only seen the latest production live, but I’ve listened to both cast recordings and the original 2010 concept album so feel free to mix and match

DNW Exception - rule 63’d characters as trans women are totally fine for this fandom! Of course, writing/drawing them as cis women is also welcome.

For this fandom, I have fewer plotty ideas that are specific to a r63 AU and more thoughts like – I love the musical so much and it would be super hot if everything was lesbians as well. I love the aesthetic of the show’s stage setting, and the cyclical nature and sense of inevitability in the storyline. In fic, if you want to write something that specifically draws on that cyclic feeling using time-loop tropes, I will love it! I’d also be interested in fleshing out the setting more than we get in the stage show – all of the synopses and ad copy say it’s postapocalyptic, but we don’t really get to see much of that in the story, just some hints of it, and I’d love a deeper exploration of the setting.

Ships/Characters

• F!Hades & Persephone, F!Hades/Persephone – I am always here for f/f Hades and Persephone retellings, and adding it to the musical canon makes it even better. I’m requesting the gen and the ship version: I’ll be happy with shippy or platonic or hateshippy or whatever type of interactions you want to write. I love their relationship in the show and how even though Persephone loathes Hades and Hades is frustrated with Persephone for the course of the action, we can see the love that used to be there (and how Orpheus resparks that love), and I’d be happy with fic/art set anywhere on that trajectory. Also, shallowly, tall and imposing gray-haired f!Hades in fancy suits is incredibly relevant to my interests


• F!Orpheus/Eurydice – I love how Orpheus is "touched" and kind of off in his own world but still changes things through his music and walks through hell to get his wife back, and I love how absolutely in love he is with Eurydice, and he would be both even more relatable and also very hot as a woman. I just want some Hadestown f/f!


• F!Hades/Eurydice – their dynamic is great in the show and, as per usual for my prompts, I would find this ship so hot with a female Hades. I am down for dubcon or noncon, or a more consensual take where Hades seduces Eurydice down into the Underworld or Eurydice embraces her role as Hades’ songbird after Orpheus has to leave her behind. I also ship Eurydice/Persephone, so Eurydice/Persephone/F!Hades is also welcome (as is f!Hades seducing Eurydice into her own bed to get back at/spite Persephone)

• F!Jerry Crozier/F!Alec Pyne – I love these two in canon, and the only way to possibly make them better would be to make them femslash. For Alec: I’d love to see how a female Alec’s relationship with her siblings would change. Her working for a living would be much more objectionable to her brother, although I’d love to see her keep working as an illustrator (maybe using a male pseudonym). For Jerry – are the Lilywhite Boys in this AU the Lilywhite Girls? Is Jerry disguising herself as a man for work, or stealing as a woman? How would her scheme with Alec differ with a female Alec? Alternatively I am very down for some f/f smut about these two, especially featuring their canonical kinks.
